Disability Assignment Essay Example for Free
Inability Assignment Essay Ageism has been tended to and there have been numerous arrangements made to help stop it. The ADA was set up to stop the separation of the handicapped, which numerous old individuals are. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) was set up to ensure laborers 40 years old or more seasoned from being terminated on account of their age and supplanted with more youthful specialists who probably would get lower compensations. None of these have been a supernatural occurrence, however they have hindered the segregation of the older. The Supreme Court decided for Meachan v. Glades Atomic Power Laboratory expressing that businesses under ADEA needed to demonstrate that laying off more seasoned specialists wasnââ¬â¢t dependent on age however ââ¬Å"some sensible factorâ⬠(Schaefer, 2012). Is the quantity of maturing populace expected to ascend in numbers or reduction? The quantity of the maturing populace is required to ascend in numbers. Agreeing toà The Demographics Of Agingâ (2009), today, one out of each 9 Americans is oldââ¬another previous youth turns 50 like clockwork. Those age 65 and more established presently surpass 35 million, a number ready to detonate. The up and coming maturing populace will be not the same as those of past decades. They will live more, keep up betterâ healthâ and have more dynamic ways of life than past ages. With the expansion in the old populace comes the requirement for progressively Social Security, inability and clinical consideration. This could influence the economy in a negative manner. â⬠¢ What sorts of enactment could conceivably be influenced by the maturing populace? I figure Bills will be influenced by the maturing populace since they should be upheld more. There are numerous Bills and laws that have been passed for the equivalent rights and reasonable treatment of the old. There are numerous private and open bills that I am certain will be authorized more with the expansion in the old populace. With the ascent of the older, there will be an ascent in casting a ballot moreover. All the more old individuals vote during a political race year than some other age gathering. These are the main two different ways that I can think about that would be influenced by the maturing populace. How does destitution influence the maturing populace? Numerous old individuals live right at the destitution level in light of the considerable number of costs they have. Medicines, doctorââ¬â¢s arrangements, lodging, and so forth are largely costs that older individuals need to pay for consistently. Most old individuals have protection, for example, Medicare, yet this doesnââ¬â¢t consistently pay for all the clinical costs they cause. Neediness can influence the maturing populace in negative manners. They can become focused on that they probably won't have the option to take care of every one of their tabs, which can prompt medical problems. On the off chance that Social Security benefits didn't exist, an expected 44%â of the old would be poor today, accepting no adjustments in conduct (Cawthorne,â 2008). There are numerous in the maturing populace who are as yet working today since they donââ¬â¢t have the way to resign. With the ruin of the economy, many need to come out of retirement and become utilized again on the grounds that their administration benefits arenââ¬â¢t enough. Part III â⬠¢ How have individuals with inabilities been treated previously? The debilitated populace has been dealt with unjustifiably previously. They are oppressed and are indicated partiality on account of their state. Many were precluded work in light of the fact that from claiming their handicaps and open scenes didnââ¬â¢t have the best possible intends to oblige a crippled individual. Some impaired people were dealt with like they had a sickness. They were given grimy looks or were gazed at like they were a zoo creature. The debilitated were left in organizations or homes to experience the remainder of their lives on the grounds that nobody needed to ââ¬Å"dealâ⬠with them. They werenââ¬â¢t given a similar treatment as the non-incapacitated. There were additionally instances of guardians of a crippled youngster being told they were in an ideal situation ââ¬Å"putting them out of their miseryâ⬠on the grounds that there werenââ¬â¢t a lot of assets accessible. The entirety of this treatment prompted the death of laws and the production of numerous associations to enable the incapacitated to get reasonable treatment. â⬠¢ How has the demeanor toward individuals with incapacities changed after some time? The demeanor toward and treatment of individuals with inabilities has changed definitely after some time. Since the presentation of the ADA, which is the Americans with Disabilities Act, the crippled have been getting equivalent rights and have had the option to battle against segregation. Pretty much every open setting has the way to suit the incapacitated, for example, a wheelchair incline or programmed opening entryways. There are occasions presently made explicitly for the incapacitated so they can in any case be a piece of their locale, similar to the Special Olympics and good cause occasions. My nephew has Down Syndrome and they have an uncommon baseball group each late spring that he takes part in called the ââ¬Å"Miracle Leagueâ⬠. Individuals are grasped more for their inabilities as opposed to being evaded. There is significantly more innovation accessible so as to keep the handicapped dynamic and social. Additionally, with the death of the ADA, there are progressively debilitated people picking up work. In all actuality, the employments they gain arenââ¬â¢t top level officials, yet they do give them a suspicion that all is well and good and pride. â⬠¢ What are some one of a kind conditions or issues experienced by individuals with incapacities? There are many one of a kind conditions or issues that I can consider experienced by individuals with inabilities. In the event that the incapacitated individual is in a wheelchair, they have numerous snags they need to survive. They are the first to load up a plane since they take the longest to jump on the plane. At the point when they experience metal identifiers, they must be wanded a short time later in light of the fact that they go off without fail. Debilitated people with any sort of physical handicap make some harder memories moving around places and getting a charge out of indistinguishable recreational exercises from an individual without a physical incapacity. People who are visually impaired have braile on signs and furthermore canââ¬â¢t appreciate similar exercises that the seeing populace can. Handicaps to me are an extraordinary condition in itself that others must be caring and deferential about. â⬠¢ What is being done to address those issues? The ADA has been passed which forestalls the separation of the crippled. They can't be separated in the workforce, eateries, transportation, and so forth. There have been many debilitated people who have battled with the premise of the ADA behind them. There are assets that can be utilized by the debilitated so as to make their lives simpler, for example, wheelchair slopes. These things make the lives of the handicapped a lot simpler. There is additionally Social Security Disability accessible for the individuals who can't work and need the pay to live. â⬠¢ What sorts of enactment have been acquainted with address issues looked by individuals with inabilities? There are numerous sorts of enactment that have been acquainted with assistance the incapacitated. The ADA, which I have just examined in past answers, shields the debilitated from partiality and segregation. The Developmental Disabilities Assistance Bill of Rights Act (DD Act) guarantees that people with formative handicaps and their families approach network based administrations and supports to advance open doors for freedom, profitability and incorporation. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law guaranteeing administrations to youngsters with handicaps all through the country. Thought administers how states and open offices give early mediation, specialized curriculum and related administrations to qualified babies, little children, kids and youth with handicaps. Gardeners are coming up with their own unique ways of taking care of their gardens, especially when they make profits out of it. In his book, The Botany of Desire, Michael Pollan claims the best gardeners of his generation have devoted themselves to growing cannabis, popularly known as marijuana. Intrigued with Pollanââ¬â¢s argument, I completely agree with him. After many years of trying to make the plant grow, perfectly, indoor, growing marijuana have become lucrative and more desired. Though marijuana growers know that planting the plant is dangerous and can even lose their house or all their property, they are taking the risk because it is a good business. The prohibition made the plant more profitable because growing them indoors takes a great amount of time and money. As a result, the plant, from being naturally grown outdoors and cheaply and accessibly, became expensive. There is so much money with this business because, one of the reasons, growers donââ¬â¢t even have to pay taxes from selling them. However, in todayââ¬â¢s society, California is having a big experiment trying to find a way to legalize marijuana. The primary focal point of my research project is human trafficking in SE Asia, why it happens and what we can do to help prevent it. We will write a custom essay sample on Human Trafficking or any similar topic only for you Order Now Many women forced into this cruel industry are coming from Asian countries such as Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and the Philippines. The majority of these women and children are sold into slavery to pay off certain other debts, or they leave their homes in hopes of labor. Unknowingly, they are getting involved in a cruel and sadistic world of forced sex. Many organized gangs including the Japanese Yakuza and the Chinese Triad are involved in human trafficking. It occurs in almost every country on this planet; however, it is mostly successful in environments with a tourism industry or a military presence. I have spent some time in Korea as well as Germany and I noticed a huge amount of women from Asian countries who were being forced to sell their bodies to U. S. Army personnel as well as civilians from those countries. Although, it is illegal, most people just turn a blind eye towards it and allow it to continue, primarily because of the amount of money it brings in to the economy. It is a US$ 5 billion to US$ 9 billion dollar annually industry according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Due to the fact that this industry makes so much money off of it, it is hard to do much about it. There are organizations such as the UN, the Polaris Project, and the US Department of State just to name a few. Unfortunately, it continues to rear its ugly head in our civilization. Everyone can do their part to help fight and prevent human trafficking. Human beings were not created to be sold into modern day slavery. I amassed these resources in order to help others do research and possibly make a difference in this ongoing epidemic. How to cite Human Trafficking, Essay examples

Researchers therefore must come up with sound measurement tools for both independent and dependent variables.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Process Involved in Choosing a Measurement Tool for Variables in Research specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Measurement is not as easy as it sounds. It is composed of four basic principles. The first two, conceptualization and operationalization are a bit simple. The other two are more advanced and complicated. They include determining the levels of measurement and measuring validity and reliability. Conceptualization involves defining a concept. Thus, resear chers must define that particular concept in a manner that is understandable by the scientific community. Researchers are allowed to borrow conceptualization from their predecessors and other researchers. On the other hand, operationalization involves making the conceptual definition more precise. This often involves linking the conceptual definition to one or more indicators. The indicators chosen must reflect observable reality in numbers. For example, in the parent involvement study, the conceptual definition is ââ¬Ëparentsââ¬â¢ involvementââ¬â¢. However, the operational definition is ââ¬Ëparentsââ¬â¢ role constructionââ¬â¢. It is also important when giving an operational definition to establish the unit of analysis. In addition, a researcher needs to evaluate the level of measurement. Santayana (2008, p.1) indicates that ââ¬Å"the level of measurement is the precision by which a variable is measured and there are four levels of measurement namely nominal, ordi nal, interval, and ratioâ⬠. The four levels are named from the lowest to the highest. On the other hand, Stevens (1951, p. 1) states that ââ¬Å"everything that can be measured falls in the aforementioned levels and the higher the type, the more the precision in measurementâ⬠. Variables that are categorical in nature usually fall in the nominal level while those that have significant importance fall in the ordinal level. Variables that have significant distances between their ranks fall in the interval level. On the other hand, variables that have fixed intervals and a fixed reference point are grouped in the ratio level. It is for these reasons that Creswell (2011) holds the opinion that researchers must define their variables conceptually and operationally while putting into account the levels of measurement since these factors eventually determine how the data collected is analyzed. In the parent involvement study, ââ¬Ëparentsââ¬â¢ involvementââ¬â¢ falls in the ordinal level.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Creswell (2011) also notes that accurate researches are accurate and valid. Validity can be measured using four methods namely face, content, criterion and construct. On the other hand, reliability can be estimated using the following methods test retest, multiple forms, inter rater, and split half. Therefore, in order to locate an instrument that is to be used to measure a given variable, a researcher must put into account a number of factors. First and foremost, according to Slavin (1984), the researcher must define his concept conceptually and operationally. After that, the researcher must establish the level of measurement in which his or her variable falls. In addition, the researcher must detect the rationales he or she will use to estimate validity and reliability. The achievement of this goal relies on having proper conceptual an d operational definition and the establishment of the level of measurement of the variable. References Cresewell, J. (2011). How to Make a Red Cabbage pH Indicator
How to Make a Red Cabbage pH Indicator Make your own pH indicator solution! Red cabbage juice contains a natural pH indicator that changes colors according to the acidity of the solution. Red cabbage juice indicators are easy to make, exhibit a wide range of colors, and can be used to make your own pH paper strips. Introduction to the Cabbage pH Indicator Red cabbage contains a pigment molecule called flavin (an anthocyanin). This water-soluble pigment is also found in apple skin, plums, poppies, cornflowers, and grapes. Very acidic solutions will turn anthocyanin a red color. Neutral solutions result in a purplish color. Basic solutions appear in greenish-yellow. Therefore, it is possible to determine the pH of a solution based on the color it turns the anthocyanin pigments in red cabbage juice. The color of the juice changes in response to changes in its hydrogen ion concentration. pH is the -log[H]. Acids will donate hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution and have a low pH (pH 7). Materials You Will Need Red cabbageBlender or knifeBoiling waterFilter paper (coffee filters work well)One large glass beaker or another glass containerSix 250 mL beakers or other small glass containersHousehold ammonia (NH3)Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3)Washing soda (sodium carbonate, Na2CO3)Lemon juice (citric acid, C6H8O7)Vinegar (acetic acid, CH3COOH)Cream of tartar (Potassium bitartrate, KHC4H4O6)Antacids (calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide)Seltzer water (carbonic acid, H2CO3)Muriatic acid or masonrys cleaner (hydrochloric acid, HCl)Lye (potassium hydroxide, KOH or sodium hydroxide, NaOH) Procedure Chop the cabbage into small pieces until you have about 2 cups of chopped cabbage. Place the cabbage in a large beaker or other glass container and add boiling water to cover the cabbage. Allow at least ten minutes for the color to leach out of the cabbage.Alternatively, you can place about 2 cups of cabbage in a blender, cover it with boiling water, and blend it.Filter out the plant material to obtain a red-purple-bluish colored liquid. This liquid is at about pH 7. The exact color you get depends on the pH of the water.Pour about 50 - 100 mL of your red cabbage indicator into each 250 mL beaker.Add various household solutions to your indicator until a color change is obtained. Use separate containers for each household solution - you dont want to mix chemicals that dont go well together! Red Cabbage pH Indicator Colors pH 2 4 6 8 10 12 Color Red Purple Violet Blue Blue-Green Greenish Yellow Tips and Safety This demo uses acids and bases, so please make certain to use safety goggles and gloves, particularly when handling strong acids (HCl) and strong bases (NaOH or KOH).Chemicals used in this demo may be safely washed down the drain with water.A neutralization experiment could be performed using cabbage juice indicator. First, add an acidic solution such as vinegar or lemon juice until a reddish color is obtained. Then add baking soda or antacids to return the pH towards a neutral 7.You can make your own pH paper strips using red cabbage indicator. Take filter paper (or coffee filter) and soak it in a concentrated red cabbage juice solution. After a few hours, remove the paper and allow it to dry (hang it by a clothespin or string). Cut the filter into strips and use them to test the pH of various solutions. To test a sample, place a drop of liquid on the test strip. Dont dip the strip in the liquid or else youll get cabbage juice in it. An example of a basic solution is laundry soap. E xamples of common acids include lemon juice and vinegar.

Away in a Manger in Spanish
Away in a Manger in Spanish Here is a Spanish version of Away in a Manger, a popular childrens Christmas song. Dont understand the words? Give your Spanish a boost with the grammar and vocabulary guide that follows. The song was originally written in English, and it isnt well known in Spanish-speaking countries. The author is unknown. English Translation of Spanish Lyrics Jesus in a manger, without a crib, was born; His tender heard slept on the hay.The sparklingà stars shed their lightOn the baby asleep, little Jesus. The oxen bellowed and he awoke,But Christ was good and never cried.I love you, O Christ, and look at me, yes,Here in my crib, thinking about you. I ask you, Jesus, toà keep watch over me,Loving me always, as I love you.Give your blessing to all the children,And make us more worthy of your great mansion. Vocabulary and Grammar Notes Pesebre: As you can guess by the title of the song, this is the word for manger, a type of box from which farm animals would eat. Because of its use in connection with the Christmas story, pesebre can also refer to a representation of the birth of Jesus, much like the English word creche. Nacià ³:à Nacer translates the phrase to be born. Cuna: A crib or other small bed made specifically for a child or baby. Tierna: This word is often translated as tender and is frequently used, as here, as an adjective of affection. By being placed before the noun it refers to, tierna here helps convey an emotional meaning. Heno: Hay. Astro: Estrella is more frequently used for star than is astro. Brillando: This is the present participle of brillar, which can mean to glitter or sparkle. In standard Spanish, present participles function as adverbs, so brillando should be seen as an adverb modifying prestaban rather than as an adjective modifying astros. Prestaban: The verb prestar most often means to loan or to lend. However, it is often used, as here, to refer to providing or giving. Dormido: This is the past participle of dormir, meaning to sleep. Buey: Ox. Bramaron: Bramar refers to the groaning sound of an animal. Mas: Without the accent, mas typically means but. The word isnt used much in everyday speech, where pero is generally preferred. Sà : Sà most often means yes. As can the English word, sà can also be used as a way of affirming or emphasizing what has been said. Mà rame: The verb mirar can mean simply to look. In this context, however, it also carries the meaning of to watch over. Mà rame is a combination of two words, mira (watch over) and me (me). In Spanish it is common to attach object pronouns to the end of certain verb forms - commands, gerunds (see amndome below) and infinitives. Pensando en: In Spanish, the phrase for to think about is pensar en. Me guardes a mà : This is a redundancy. In everyday speech, me guardes (watch over me) would be sufficient. Although in speech the addition of the grammatically unnecessary a mà might be done for reasons of emphasis, here it is used to help provide the right number of syllables for the music. Amndome: This is a combination of two words, amando (loving) and me (me). Da: In this context, da is the imperative (command) form of dar (to give) used when speaking to a friend or family member. A todos los nià ±os da tu bendicià ³n: The standard word would place a todos los nià ±os after the verb. Spanish is more flexible with word order than English, however, so this sort of sentence structure isnt unusual,à Haznos: Another combination of two words, haz (the imperative form of hacer, to make, used when speaking to a friend or family member), and nos (us). Mansià ³n: Usually a dwelling place, but sometimes specificallyà a mansion. In this context, tu gran mansià ³n figuratively refers to heaven.

Psychology - Essay Example 3. William Wundt founded structuralism. It focuses on breaking down mental processes into basic components. It is considered to be the first school of psychology. William James created functionalism and it focused on individual differences specifically focusing on the purpose of the consciousness and types of behavior. Lastly, the Gestalt school was focused on the opposite of structuralism in that they were more interested in the whole being the sum of its individual parts. 4. Anna Freud made significant contributions to the field of psychoanalysis like her father. She is considered to have started the field of psychoanalytic child psychology. June Etta Downey was an American psychologist who was one of the first to study personality from a scientific approach. Letta Stetter Hollingworth was feminist psychologist who was a pioneer in the field of womenââ¬â¢s psychology. 5. Humanistic psychology emphasizes the will of the individual. People are capable of making choices, which influence their health and well being. Humanistic psychologists also take into consideration the effect that environment has on an individual. Behaviorism is based off observable behavior, which is what makes classical conditioning and operant conditioning a component of this theory. They also believe that all learning occurs through some form of observation. 6. Conscious thought processes are readily accessible to the person. This consists of the actions, cognitions, and beliefs, which are at the surface. Unconscious processes exist below the consciousness and are not accessible. Information from this level passes back and forth unknown to the person. Freud hypothesized that this information manifests itself in dreams. Unconscious processes cannot be observed directly, unlike conscious processes. 7. The first step for psychologists would be to determine what construct of love they would want to study.

The structure makes use of approximately a total of 10,000 test tubes filled with acrylic. The wings are made to slowly swap by the air conditioning system of the building. The test tubes are filled with different colored material and when they swap they cast beautiful colored shadows on the people moving below the structure. The beauty of this amazing butterfly cannot be mentioned and cannot be explained by words. It is just an awe-strucking piece of art. People who view this beauty cannot resist themselves from looking at it again and again and pondering over its magnificence and beauty (Turner, 105). Adolf Eichmann Imagine a life of hiding in fear from being killed and hunted down, which is what the Holocaust was. During the Holocaust everyone believes that Hitler is the one to blame. This is partially true, he does deserve most of the blame yet Adolf Eichmann shares some of it being one to help send over 6 million Jews to death in centration camps. It all started while Eichmann was a little boy. Adolf Eichmann was born on March 19, 1906 in Solingen, Germany. He and the rest of his family moved to Linz, Australia while Adolf was in Grade School. Believe it or not his best friend growing up was Jewish. His mother died while Adolf was at a young age and his father remarried promptly after. Adolf was the only one to fail out of his high school and not graduate of his family (Ruth 10-12). Adolf Eichmannââ¬â¢s father put him into a school to become an engineer out of desperation for his son to succeed. Adolf Flunked out of that school just as he had in high school. His family thought of him to be a disappointment. His father started a mining company and employed Adolf but he didnââ¬â¢t do well at that job either. Adolfââ¬â¢s father pushed him to excel but Adolf just had no desire to work. Adolf would soon leave the mining business and join the army rather than to stay and work for his father (Ruth 12-15). Adolf Eichmann joined the army in an effort to alleviate boredom but ended up getting bored. He thought that it was repetitive, doing the same thing every day, all day. He told his drill instructor that the only reason he was doing so well was because his father would not buy him some new gloves and he was angry because of that. His anger made him surpass the rest of the soldiers. Adolf was promoted to the Austrian Legion. The Austrian L... ...ny responsibility for his father's actions and is content with the penalty the trail gave his father. Ricardo was the youngest of Adolf's sons. (Coffee with Eichmann Ynet) Adolf Eichmann was found guilty of his crimes against Jewish people and was sentenced to death. Eichmann was hung on June 1, 1962. He was cremated and his ashes were put in the middle of the sea off the coast of Israel. His final words were very long. He talks about how he was just following orders which is true but that doesn't make it any more right to aid in the killing of over 6 million Jews. Eichmann said, ââ¬Å"To sum it all up, I regret nothing." (Coffee with Eichmann (Ynet) Eichmann was truly evil and deserves a lot of the blame. He deported the Jews to the concentration camps. He was involved in sending over 6 million Jews to their death. He was a coward and fled the country after the war.

An Ethical View Essay
Moral and ethical viewpoints are often shaped and molded by your society; learning to respect others, tolerance, my family, church, co-workers, past and present life experiences has influenced my moral and ethical viewpoints. Knowing right from wrong and how to treat others has been the â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦.in this process. I. Influences on My Moral and Ethical Development A. My family/environment (Moral development) 1. Tolerance 2. Forgiveness and being honest B. Ethical development (Church/work) 1. topic/idea for paper 2. topic/idea for paper II. Experiences that Contributed to My Personal and Professional Development A. Life and Death 1. Marriage at an early age 2. Life experiences/lessons (murder of my spouse, single parent, setbacks,) B. Professional Development 1. School/instructors 2. Co-workers 3. past employment experiences This paper will display a brief synopsis of the elements that has influenced my moral and ethical development as well as, discuss counseling issues and the ethical codes used to resolve the issues, and I will explain how I have changed because of my work in this class. I developed a true sense of right and wrong at an early age, as a kid I was very adventurous and would do things just to see how far my parents, grandparents, or aunts/ uncles would allow me to go before chastisement came into play. I remember one incident as if it was yesterday, when I was seven I would watch one of my eldest aunts obtain a cigarette from the package (Virginia Slims), her lighter, light her cigarette, and began to smoke it; she would make smoke rings for me. One day I decided that I would mimic my auntââ¬â¢s actions and smoke a cigarette, my grandmother caught me smoking the cigarette. She did not spank me as I thought that would have been a fair form of disciplinary resolution for my actions, she wanted me to know just how unhealthy smoking cigarettes was for me so, she made me call my mother and father, aunts, uncles, and cousins and tell them what I had done. From that moment until now I have never touched another cigarette and thatââ¬â¢s when the real less ons of what was right and wrong began. Being the eldest of five children born to a single parent mother I learned at an early age about charity and helping those in need; my mother taught me about sacrifice at an early age even though I did not understand it then I have a firm grasp on the concept of sacrifice in my adult life. Growing up in my grandparentsgrandparentsââ¬â¢ home I did not understand what beingthe definition of poverty or what being poor really meant because my grandparents were always so eager to feed everyone in the community, it wasnââ¬â¢t until my mother decided that she did not want to live under my grandparents roof and abide by their rules was when the knowledge of poverty settled in; my grandparents were very active in their Christian faith, they believed that God blessed you so, you should be a blessing to others and they always welcomed the needy into their home to share our meals on a consistent basis. There were four topics that you were to consider, including influences on your moral and ethical development; experiences that contributed to your personal and professional development; legal and ethical issues in counseling; and reflection. Nice job giving thought to these areas. Looks like you have some thoughts for your final project. Looking forward to a little more detail on your next submission and looking forward to reading your final project! In order to understand clearly where you are headed, you must also evaluate where you have been and what has influenced you along the way. It is important to reflect critically upon your own values (and sense of personal/professional ethics) and how you developed these perspectives in order to develop an ethical framework. To help accomplish this goal, the Final Project for this course is an Ethical Autobiography in which you will explore various elements o f your life experiences that might influence your future ethical framework. As you reflect on your journey through this class, some of the course readings may have informed your Ethical Autobiography. You can also make use of outside resources, but much of the paper will be exploring what you bring to the profession and events that may have influenced your ethical lens. This reflective autobiography should have personal meaning to you and should help you understand what being an ethical practitioner means. In this sense, you are writing an intellectual and Ethical Autobiography, that is, who you are as virtue of what you believe, what you do, and what you have read. Think broadlyââ¬âthere are no wrong answers; you are exploring your own world Some examples of questions/issues that you can address: â⬠¢ You may share how you developed a sense of right and wrong. â⬠¢ Who/what influenced your moral and ethical development? â⬠¢ What experiences contributed to your personal and professional beliefs? Are your personal and professional beliefs congruent? â⬠¢ What is your idea of right and wrong? Are there absolutes or are there shades of gray? Do the same guidelines apply in all circumstances? â⬠¢ What are some of your basic values that guide your work and your life? What experiences have potentially influenced your decision making? â⬠¢ What aspects of your personality and work ethic are most compatible with the counseling field? Which aspects are the least compatible? â⬠¢ Was there a time, in your personal or professional life, when you felt that your confidentiality was violated, that you were involved in a dual relationship in which you felt uncomfortable, or perhaps an issue resonated unexpectedly with you (e.g., transference)? Essential Elements (You m ust address the points outlined below in your Final Project.): â⬠¢ Select four counseling issues, describe these issues, and explain potential ethical challenges for addressing these issues in your professional practice. â⬠¢ Explain state or region laws or statutes that might apply to these ethical challenges. â⬠¢ Reference specific codes of ethics that you ascribe to for your practice and how adhering to ethics and law present challenges for addressing these issues you selected. â⬠¢ Explain why this Assignment is meaningful to you. â⬠¢ Describe how adhering to ethics and law for professional counseling practice might influence social change. â⬠¢ Finally, explain how you have changed because of your work in this class. Describe personal and ethical values you have reexamined because of your work in this course. You should present your Final Project as a 12- to 15-page (including cover page, abstract, and referencesââ¬âtherefore, approximately 10ââ¬â12 pages of text), double-spaced, APA-formatted paper. Papers can be longeriflonger if the purpose of the paper is served, but the quality ofideasof ideas and conciseness of the writing should justify the extra length. Also, please proofread yourpapersyour papers to make sure that grammar, punctuation, and other mistakes do not hinder thecommunicationthe communication of your ideas. This law was designed to protect mental health counselors from being responsible for notifying anyone of intended harm. ââ¬Å"The statue classifies communications between a mental health professional(s) and their client(s) as confidential and prohibits mental-health professionals from disclosing them to the third party unless an exception applies.â⬠(FN17)(Texas Supreme Court, 1999). The exceptions to the law are: ââ¬Å"reporting child abuse or neglect, reporting HIV status to a spouse, medical personnel, or law enforcement, and report imminent danger to police officer if the client poses a threat to him/herself or others.â⬠(The Family Code, section 261.101(a-c) (Texas Supreme Court, 1999). In the case Thapar v. Zezulka, rendered by the Texas Supreme Court in 1999, stipulated that mental health providers do not incur a duty to warn and protect (Dalrymple, 1999; Grinfeld, 1999; Texas Supreme Court, 1999). Specifically, the opinion written for a unanimous court by Justice Craig T. Enoch stated that, ââ¬Å"we refrain from imposing on mental health professionals a duty to warn third parties of a patientââ¬â¢s threatsâ⬠(FN1) (Texas Supreme Court, 1999). By implementing several of the Ethical Decision Models (Rational Model, Collaborative Model, and Integrative Model), I believe a peaceful resolution can be accomplished when a counselor is faced with t he ethical decision of whether to inform a third party that intended harm has been conveyed. Although the law in Texas states, ââ¬Å"we as counselors are not obligated to warn nor protect a third party,â⬠we can always defer to The Code of Ethics (2005) which states, ââ¬Å"A.1.a. Primary Responsibility: The primary responsibility of counselors is to respect the dignity and to promote the welfare of clients. B.1.c. Respect for Confidentiality: Counselors do not share confidential information without client consent or without sound legal or ethical justification. B.2.a. Danger and Legal Requirements: The general requirement that counselors keep information confidential does not apply when disclosure is required to protect clients or identified others from serious harm.â⬠(ACA Code of Ethics, 2005). Implementing an EDM, making reference to the ACA code of ethics, and consulting with a supervisor/colleagues will help the make a sound and ethical decision whether to warn or p rotect. Client confidentiality is another issue that I think would pose a problem for me as a counselor, upon reading the landmark case ââ¬Å"United States of America, Plaintiff v. Robert Allen Romo (2005).â⬠ââ¬Å"This case arises out of a confession Romo made during a meeting with Donald LaPlante, the Program Director at the Dawson County Adult Correction and Detention Facility where Romo was incarcerated. ââ¬â LaPlante is a licensed professional counselor whose job included providing inmates with psychological counseling and a host of other duties, ranging from arranging social events to providing classes and acting as a case manager. ââ¬â Before the meeting that sparked the chain of events leading to Romoââ¬â¢s conviction, LaPlante had provided Romo with mental health treatment during voluntary counseling sessions.â⬠(United States of America, Plaintiff v. Robert Allen Romo (2005) I realized that it does matter to clients if you discuss with them informed consent a nd confidentiality they can still file some sort of legal litigation against the counselor if they felt like the counselor violated any of their rights. Non-sexual relationship is one boundary issue I can foresee (providing counseling services to family members), pg 210. Counseling minors One ethical and legal challenge I think would be an issue for me is confidentiality; ââ¬Å"knowing when and with whom to share the information the minor has shared in the counseling session.â⬠Once you have built a rapport with the client you do not want to betray the trust of the client. The second issue would be parental rights and making sure the counselors has the clientââ¬â¢s best interest at hand; when counseling minor clients it is best to make sure everything is explained on the first visit and that both the parent/legal guardian and client understands the details of the informed consent form. Since the laws vary from state to state, I know it would be beneficial for me as a counselor to use the following ACA Codes of Ethics to handle such issues: B.5.b.(Responsibility to Parents and Legal Guardians) states, ââ¬Å" Counselors inform parents and legal guardians about the role of counselors and the confidential nature of the counseling relationship. Counselors are sensitive to the cultural diversity of families and respect the inherent rights and responsibilities of parents and guardians over the welfare of their children/charges according to the law. Counselors work to establish, as appropriate, collaborative relationships with parents/guardians to best serve the client.â⬠(ACA Ethical Standards Casebook, 2006, p.35) B.5.c. (Release of Confidential Information) ââ¬Å"When counseling minor clients counselors seek permission from an appropriate third party to disclose information. In such instances, counselors inform clients consistent with their level of understanding and take culturally appropriate measures to safeguard client confidentiality.â⬠(ACA Ethical Standards Casebook, 2006, p.35) View as multi-pages

The Rise of the Creative Class Essay - 1975 Words
In the information economy, creative content is a nationââ¬â¢s most important natural resource. ââ¬Å"The wealth creation in an economy of ideas is dependent on the capacity of a nation to continually create content or new forms of widely distributed expression, for which they will need to invest in creative human capital throughout the economy and not merely gadgets and hardware.â⬠(Venturelli 14). We may assume then that in the 21st century, artists will finally be able to earn a living. Industrial Age à Information Age As in all philosophical shifts much of the 20th century was spent applying the ideas of the industrial age onto the increasingly visible information age. At the dawning of the 21st century we are still relying on theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Successful societies will draw on as many citizens as possible to participate, demystifying the notion of artist as a creative genius who works independently in an art laboratory, and then gives his gift to the world. This will cause growing pains and ego-smashing at first, but once the creative class has digested this idea, they will begin to see themselves working in an interdependent environmental infosphere that has the same requirements as the natural environment of balance, diversity, and interaction. Of course every sector of society can contribute to the growth of the creative sector. Some Important Terms: The Marketplace of Ideas v. The Typological Symbol of the Lamb in the Bible Free Essays
From the earliest times of human being, images and symbols were a part of social and religious life and integrated its culture. Symbolism has played an active role in all worldââ¬Ës religions from the beginning and symbols were objects which believers focused on and where they set prayers. The word symbol comes from the Greek word symbollo. We will write a custom essay sample on The Typological Symbol of the Lamb in the Bible or any similar topic only for you Order Now Symbol is defined as ââ¬Å"something visible that by association represents something else that is invisible. ââ¬Å" The origin, meaning and traditions of Christian symbols originate in the old times when people cannot read and write and education was not accessible. One of the most important symbols of Christ in the Bible is the Lamb. Lamb represents Jesus (ââ¬Å"And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! â⬠John 1:36) and the Church (ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. â⬠Isaiah 53:7). What are the definition and the meaning of the Lamb? In the Bible, lambs are depicted as animals which are killed. They are defenceless and easy to be hurt. People, who were undergoing hard conditions and suffering from brutal treatment, were compared to lambs that are led to be slaughtered. A lamb is a descendant of a sheep. In Christian symbolism, a lamb represents Jesus Chris, a descendant of God His Father. The whiteness of the Lamb symbolises innocence and purity. Lambs wonââ¬â¢t hurt anyone. They are moderate, inquisitive and submissive. They take a good care for their own as well as the rest of the group and are always seen together. Jesus came from his Father to teach us how to act and how to be.Using parables, he was explaining what God is like and what we should be like. Jesus was explaining His love against people, His desire to be our fellow and comparing us to lambs and sheep, He was demonstrating His will to group us all into His Church. He called himself a Lamb, which was slaughtered for our sins and purified us with His blood. Old Testament was using lambs as animals for sacrifice. At the time when Bible was written, raising sheep was the main activity of making a living. The wealth of a person was measured by the size of his flock. The Jewish tradition commanded Jewish people to sacrifice lambs for their sins and in this way to conciliate with God. The sacrifice had to be a blemish lamb, a perfect one without any wrong. Only a perfect lamb could pay the debt brought about by the sins of people. As God is a Holy God, the perfect one, without any imperfection thus a picular sacrifice had to be. Therefore Jewish people chose a lamb using these criteria. The Passover was an annual event during which a perfect lamb was selected, bought so it could be sacrificed. One lamb for the sins of each family. There is a ââ¬Å"Lambâ⬠image found in the Old Testament. Gen. 22:9: ââ¬Å"When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, ââ¬Å"Abraham! Abraham! â⬠ââ¬Å"Here I am,â⬠he replied. ââ¬Å"Do not lay a hand on the boy,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son. Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, ââ¬Å"On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided. â⬠A crucial part of social and religious life and worship under the Mosaic system was the lamb offered daily for ritual sacrifice in the temple. Exodus 29:38-42 reads, ââ¬Å"Now this is what you shall offer on the altar: two lambs a year old regularly each day.One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer in the evening and with the first lamb one-tenth of a measure of choice flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering. And the other lamb you shall offer in the evening, and shall offer it with a grain offering and its drink offering, as in the morning, for a pleasing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord. It shall be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations before the Lord, where I will meet with you, to speak to you there. In Christian symbolism, the lamb represents Jesus, ââ¬Å"the lamb of Godâ⬠(agnus Dei). John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ââ¬Å"Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the worldâ⬠. The lamb is sometimes portrayed with a flag, symbolic of Christââ¬â ¢s victory over death in his Resurrection. Standing with a banner, the lamb represents the risen Christ triumphant over death. Standing with a cross and a gash in its side, it symbolizes the passion of Christ and Christââ¬â¢s victory over sin. Seated on a throne or a book, the lamb represents the judgment of Christ.Because the lamb is humble, gentle, and innocent, lambs are often engraved on the tombstones of children. The Lamb of God represents the Jesus Christ (Gen. 4:4; Ex. 12:3; 29:38; Isa. 16:1; 53:7; John 1:36; Rev. 13:8), in allusion to the paschal lamb and also a symbol for Christians (as Christ is our Shepherd and Peter was told to feed His sheep). The lamb is also a symbol for St. Agnes (Feast Day 21 January), virgin martyr of the early Church. The Agnus Dei (to represent Jesus Christ, using the words of John the Baptist, and its sacrifice) is Latin meaning the ââ¬Å"Lamb of Godâ⬠.In ancient examples, the Agnus Dei may be seen lying upon the Book of Seven Seals or carrying the Banner of Victory. It is crowned with a three-rayed halo, a symbol for divinity. In other examples the Lamb stands upon a hill from which flow the Four Rivers of Paradise, signifying the Four Gospels. The image of Agnus Dei goes back to 5th century Rome. From the ninth century, wax imprinted with a lamb started to be used by Popes. One of the few Christian symbols dating from the first centuries is that of the Good Shepherd carrying on His shoulders a lamb or a sheep, with two other sheep at his side.In the first centuries, nearly one hundred frescoes were depicted using this symbol in Christian catacombs. Lambs symbolize us as children of God. Jesus called Himself our Shepherd and we are all His sheep. Even in the Old Testament David called the Lord: ââ¬Å"My Shepherdâ⬠. It has always been in Godââ¬â¢s intention to guard over us, to lead us, as the shepherd is guiding, leading and watching over his sheep, protecting them. The most important usage of the lamb was in the Passover ritual. In Exod 12, the Hebrews were instructed by God to kill a lamb and to smear some of its blood on the doorposts of their homes. They were to roast the lamb and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. The blood of the lamb smeared on the doorpost was to be a sign that would protect the people of God during the tenth plague, the plague of the death of the firstborn. The paschal lamb was the biblical prefiguration of Christ who offered himself in sacrifice. All four Gospels agree that Jesus was crucified at the time of the observance of Passover when the Passover lamb was slain.Jesus is our Passover Lamb. He was sacrificed to deliver us from sin, just as the first Passover Lamb was sacrificed to deliver the firstborn sons of the Israelites from death and to provide them with escape from Egypt. The Entire Passover feast represents what Jesus did for us on the cross. The Earthly Passover: 1. The lamb had to be without blemish (Ex 12:5) 2. The Lamb was killed at twilight on Nisan (Ex. 12:46) 3. Blood was smeared on the two doorposts and on the lintel of each house (Ex. 12:7) The Heavenly Passover: 1. Knowing you were not redeemed with corruptible thingsâ⬠¦ ut with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot (1 Pet. 1:18, 19) 2. He died before sunset on the fifteenth of Nisan (Jn 19:30-33) 3. His blood is on the doorposts of our hearts and consciences (1 Pet 1:2) During the Old Testament times God commanded Israel to offer animal sacrifices for their sins in order to establish symbols pointing to the true and ultimate sacrifice for sins, the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. The lamb was the principal animal of sacrifice among the Jewish people in the evening and morning sacrifices. The place of the sacrifice is the place where the glory and grace of God is made known. The obedience of the Son of man is therefore the place where the guilt of sin is taken away, and since His obedience is an ultimate obedience its consequences are universal. Jesus is the ââ¬Å"perfect lambâ⬠without blemish who died on the cross so we no longer need to sacrifice a living lamb to pay the sanction of our sins. Not only that, Jesusââ¬â¢ sacrifice was once and for all. His sacrifice was complete. God used animals as symbols for a short period in history in order to demonstrate to mankind what His salvation plan would be. How to cite The Typological Symbol of the Lamb in the Bible, Papers
